The Yeti, or Abominable Snowman, has been one of the most elusive Cryptozoological Specimens of the last 100 years. This ape-like man creature is estimated to be 8 feet tall and covered in coarse red or black hair. The Yeti is found in the highest mountain range in the world, the Himalayas,which border Nepal, Tibet and India. In 1951 a photo of a footprint was taken by Eric Shipton on a Expedition to Mount Everest. Taken somewhere in the Himalayas, this is the clearest piece of Yeti evidence ever discovered. Beginning in 1957, wealthy American oilman Tom Slick funded a few missions to investigate the Yeti.
In 1959 Slick heard reports of a "Yeti Hand" held as a Ritual Artifact in the Monastery at Pangboche. On a later expedition an effort to further examine the possible piece of evidence of a cryptid was attempted. A member of Slick's expedition stole the Artifact after the monks who owned it refused to allow its removal for study. They smuggled the bones from Nepal into India, after which actor James Stewart smuggled the hand out of the country in his luggage. Scientists first findings were that it was humanoid, but more in line with what would be found from a Neanderthal. Hair samples were examined & determined that they were from a unknown type of Primate. Later it was discovered that a Slick expedition consultant, an American anthropologist by the name of George Agogino, had retained samples of the Yeti hand. The NBC program Unsolved Mysteries obtained these samples and Tested them. They determined that the skin samples were similar to human tissue, but not human, and could only verify they were "Near Human." After the broadcast of the program, the entire hand was stolen from the Pangboche monastery, and reportedly disappeared into a private collection via the illegal underground in the sale of antiquities.
