Arkeology is the study of Noah's Ark and the search for physical evidence which would corroborate it. At the end of the Genesis Flood narrative the Ark comes to rest on the mountains of Ararat, placing Noah's Ark on a mountain in Turkey. In the 5th century Jacob of Nisibis scaled Mount Qardu. Near the summit, an angel visited and presented him with a Gopher Wood Beam from the Ark. Here God's Messenger also created a cold stream that has miraculous healing qualities. A church bearing St Jacob's name was then built to house the Relic. This piece of the Ark Artifact was later moved to the museum of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
Gopher Wood is a term used for the substance from which Noah's Ark was built. Modern Scholars tend to favor Cypress which in Hebrew is Gophar. Searches for Noah's Ark have been reported since antiquity. Even more formal quests occurred in the 19th century, with the emergence of Biblical Archaeology. By the 1940s, expeditions were following up on these leads. Today many believe the Ark of Noah is embedded in ice high atop Mount Ararat, just waiting to be found.
